Namma Billava Matrimony Profile Guide: Icebreakers & Dealbreakers
A simple, step-by-step guide to creating your free profile on Namma Billava, plus how Icebreakers and Dealbreakers help you start warmer, clearer conversations.

From Profile Setup to Perfect Match: Navigating Namma Billava
Finding a life partner within the community should feel safe, respectful and clear for everyone involved. A thoughtful Billava matrimony profile is where that starts.
Whether your family is in Mangaluru, Udupi, Kodagu, Bengaluru or abroad, this guide walks you through setting up your profile on Namma Billava. Then we'll look at two features that make first conversations easier: Icebreakers and Dealbreakers.
Joining and creating a profile are free. There's no commission or success fee, ever.
How to create your Billava matrimony profile, step by step
Parents can set it up for a son or daughter, or you can do it yourself.
Step 1: Register free
Tap Register free. You'll see Sign in or join. New here? Tap Continue with Google.

Step 2: Choose "Find a match"
Next you'll see Who's this for? Pick Find a match (for me or my family). Matchmaker / broker is for matchmakers with clients, and List my services is for wedding vendors.
Prefer Kannada? Tap the EN / ಕನ್ನಡ toggle at the top of the screen to switch languages.

Step 3: Create your matrimony profile
On Create your matrimony profile, fill in:
- Profile created for: Myself, Children, Brother, Sister or Relative
- Full name
- Gender
- Residence country
- Mother's bari
- Your sangha (optional): add it if a local sangha (community association) introduced you
Then tap Save profile.
Not sure of your mother's bari yet? You can choose Not sure / Don't know and still publish your profile. It's worth a call to your mother or someone on her side of the family, and you can add it later. New to bari? Read Bari in Billava matchmaking, explained.

Namma Billava doesn't hide anyone because of bari. Profiles show a small note: a green pill when baris differ, a gentle caution note when they're the same, and a note when bari isn't shared. Same-bari profiles are ranked lower in your matches. Your family decides what matters.
Astro:
you'll be asked Do you know your rashi & nakshatra? (your birth star sign).

If you don't, tap No and confirm your date of birth instead.

Lifestyle:
Diet, Alcohol and Smoking. These stay hidden. Other members see them only after you approve a request.

Photo tips
- Use a recent, clear photo in natural light.
- One smiling close-up and one full-length photo work well.
- Avoid heavy filters and group photos.
Tap Add your Photo, then choose under Photo privacy who can see them: Only after I approve (the default), After mutual interest, Paid members only, or Visible to all members. New photos show "Waiting for review" for a short while.

Your privacy, in short:
- Profiles are visible only to signed-in members.
- Your mobile number is never public. Paid members can see it only by using a phone reveal, and only after you've verified your number.
- Optional ID verification, for a small one-time fee, earns your profile a Verified badge.
Dealbreakers & icebreakers: one quick page
Once your profile is ready, a card on your Home screen invites you to Pick up to 2 dealbreakers & 1 icebreaker · 2 min. You can also open Dealbreakers & icebreakers from your profile menu.
It's one page with two steps.
A short guide at the top explains each part. Tap Got it to close it.

Dealbreakers in arranged marriage, asked kindly and early
Step 1: Dealbreakers lets you ask them up front. Pick up to 2 of 4. People answer these before sending you an interest.
- Up for moving cities or abroad?
- Happy to live with parents long term?
- Want children within 1-2 years of marriage?
- OK with a partner who drinks socially?
Dealbreakers are not filters. Nobody is hidden from you. Anyone who sends you an interest answers Yes, Open, No or Prefer not to say, and can add an optional one-liner.
Members on Bangara or higher can add up to 2 questions of their own, which our team reviews first.
Answers are shared only between the people exchanging interests. They never appear in search or on your public profile.
Matrimony icebreakers: warmer than "Hi"
In Step 2: Icebreakers, you answer short prompts that can open your conversations. A friendly opening tends to get a warmer reply than a plain "Hi".
- Long week done. What's your reset button?
- Which home dish could you eat every single week?
- Which festival or get-together do you count the days to?
- What caught your eye about this profile?
Or choose Write your own and fill in Your question and Your answer to it.
Sending an interest
When you tap to send an interest, a window titled Send interest to [their name] opens:
- Under Their dealbreakers, answer each question they've set (one or two). Until you do, the button asks you to finish, for example Answer 2 dealbreakers to send when they've set two. "Prefer not to say" counts as an answer.
- Under Add a conversation starter (marked Recommended), pick an icebreaker and your answer. Saved answers fill in for you. Tick Edit for this request only to change one just for this person.
- Tap Send interest. Haven't set your own yet? Tap Set your own dealbreakers →.
